12 Kitchen Tile to Wood Floor Transition Ideas That Create a Seamless Look
Light Wood Tiles
Here, light colors reign supreme, as a light colored kitchen tile transitions to a light wooden floor. The shade of the flooring plays nicely with the wooden island frame and lower kitchen cabinetry present in this space.
Pattern Play
If you opt for a patterned kitchen tile, you will want to go for a more simple, solid wood in the adjoining space to ensure that your home doesn't appear too visually overwhelming. Painting the walls white also adds a touch of simplicity to the adjoining dining room.

Bathroom makeovers: Reimagined ensuites showcase stunning design
Top designers share reimagined spaces
“Design with you in mind.” This mantra guides interior designers Josephina Serra and Lauren Webb, who’ve partnered since 2015 as Form Collective.
Design Report: The clients’ wishes for the primary ensuite in their Whistler townhouse were crystal clear: Incorporate unique design elements to modernize and simplify the space, keep accessibility in mind and steer clear of the typical Whistler chateau vibe.
Serra and Webb used a warm, grey, Japanese stoneware mosaic tile to form a dramatic backdrop. It elongates the wall mirror framed in the same light wood as the vanity with an added layer of pendant lights. It’s a shared bathroom, so wall-mounted faucets over undermount sinks create more countertop space.
A curbless walk-in shower provides easy access in case of potential sports injuries—a thoughtful touch, given the recreation aspect of this vacation home.

Home Tour: A Modern Okanagan Farmhouse Designed for the Dog
The team at Form Collective combined two aesthetics to create a long-lasting relaxing oasis for the whole family (pets included).
What screams retirement more than moving from the hustle and bustle of Vancouver to 80 acres of land in the northern Okanagan… with impeccable views of mountain landscapes and natural light sunbathing each room? Thanks to Josephina Serra and Lauren Webb, principals at Form Collective, their clients can now check retirement dream home off the list.
“There’s two of them, and their dog—we wanted to build them a home that would last many many years,” explains Serra. But since the homeowners had slightly different styles, Serra and Webb had to combine the two to make it suitable for both. Elevated modern farmhouse was the perfect compromise.
“The owners were urban dwellers, now moving to 80 acres of land, so they wanted it more on the modern side,” says Webb. With floor-to-ceiling windows in the great room, an outdoor living space perfect for entertaining and hot tub access from the ensuite, they’ve got modern covered.
The farmhouse aesthetic comes through the furniture, including an antique dresser brought from the couple’s home in Vancouver. “We determined the depth of the entryway based on that piece, since we knew they wanted it,” says Webb. The designers turned it into a focal point by “painting the wall behind it black so it really stood out.”

Western Living: One Material, Two Directions
The oversized island in this Vancouver kitchen needed a large light fixture to match, so a grand chandelier was custom fabricated by Karice Lighting from the same material as the minimalist hood vent. “Using a matching finish allowed the fixture to be a statement on its own, while still being complementary,” says Josephina Serra of Form Collective, who designed the space alongside colleague Lauren Webb. But while the lighting design is a true statement piece, the matching hood is actually intended to play a supporting role. “Though they’re both the same powder-coated metal, the idea was the hood fan would be understated in order for it to not compete with the stone backsplash,” Serra says. And what a backsplash it is: lime-green onyx from Aeon Stone and Tile, a playful, modern take on the marble trend—definitely no wallflower. “We were lucky to have a client who wasn’t afraid of colour.”

Unbarricaded Bliss
Six hundred square feet is not much to work with, but for designer and homeowner, Lauren Webb, this small space condo renovation was more of a trial than a tribulation. The unit, located on the second floor of a three-story walk-up, was built in 1993 and was in its original condition when the family of four, including two dogs, first moved in. From a design standpoint, the space had good bones – a fact that jived well with Lauren’s forethought for the home. “I purchased the condo with the intention of renovating,” says Lauren, “so we wanted to consider resale value and make sure to not over-personalize.”

Plan Your Kitchen Island Seating For Your Family’s Needs
I recently heard a story about a homeowner who had a major design regret. During a previous renovation, she elected to put all four counter stools on the same side of her kitchen island, a frequent spot for her family meals. This left her with a beautiful look but turned out to be an unfortunate mistake from a functional perspective. That’s because she now has to choose between having everyone in her family face in one direction like strangers in a diner and having to pull around a stool to sit on the wrong side of the island, with her knees bumping up against cabinets for the sake of family bonding.
