The Study Pub is located in the student union building at the centre of Simon Fraser University. We renovated this 5,800 sq ft space to create a vibrant, welcoming hub for students, staff and locals alike. The Study is a ‘barcade’ that offers a variety of seating areas to suit all types. A moody yet colourful gaming lounge is located on the lower level, complete with its own bar and a variety of games including ping pong, pool, shuffle board and pin ball to name a few. The middle level is equipped with more games and fun ‘house’ structures that offer a casual space to socialize and enjoy time amongst friends. The upper pub is a welcoming, light filled space with stunning views and intimate dining spaces that we created by designing custom bookcase room dividers. All seating areas have usb ports and electrical outlets for a quick laptop session or phone charge, which is a must for a bustling university! At night, the tables are removed and the space becomes a dance floor, adding an exciting nightlife opportunity to SFU.
Form Collective designed this 13,000 sqft space with both function and comfort in mind. This client came to us looking for help with construction drawings, specifications, furniture space planning and selection along with management of all consultants involved. Effective space planning and careful consideration of all requirements and standards were a must for this large scale office. The palette selected was calm and neutral for the high stress line of work while comfortable for long hours spent in the office. Form Collective selected everything from the finishes, fixtures lighting and furniture in the space.
Rain Or Shine UBC
A small but bustling new location for the ever so loved Rain or Shine ice cream meant a need for maximum visual impact, but also high functionality due to its limited 460 square feet. This location is situated in a brand new building on the University of British Columbia campus and required the material selection criteria to be durable yet eye catching. The wood walls were selected for durability as the client knew this would be a busy location. Colour and visible cues played a large role in the design process as well, and allowed for a space that would make a big impact.
This popular local salon has many long-term clients and is a very busy place. Its a high volume, fast paced salon. The owners of the shop came to us with the challenge of moving their existing 1300 square foot salon into a much smaller 500 square foot salon, that needed to accommodate the same amount of traffic. This particular space was previously a cell phone shop with a very basic storefront. When we first saw the space it had yellowed ceiling tiles, a low ceiling, dark, worn out tile floors, and it was TINY! We took on the challenge of creating a attractive, durable, well functioning salon in a very short timeline and practical budget.
To create the illusion of a larger space and to keep it interesting, we designed a unique ceiling panel system, allowing us to illuminate the space properly, getting light closer to the work stations. We also wanted to highlight The Scissors branding by integrating a neon logo in the centre of the store that is easy to see from the street. The fresh new look will allow the small shop to continue serving happy clients for many years to come.
We have had the opportunity to update lobbies for a variety of multi-residential buildings. We enjoy finding ways to make residents immediately feel at home when they walk through the front door.
